Witness appeal after TNS fan killed in crash near Oswestry

Police are appealing for witnesses to a fatal crash near Oswestry.

Tributes have been paid to Steve Norcross, an avid fan of The New Saints FC, who was killed when he was struck by a car on the A5 near Gobowen on Saturday evening.

West Mercia Police officers are still trying to establish the facts surrounding the incident, and have launched an appeal for witnesses to the crash, which happened near the junction of the B5009.

Spokeswoman Eleanor Harris said: "The collision happened just before 10.45pm on Saturday October 13 on the A5 in Gobowen near to the junction with the B5009.

"For reasons yet to be established, the pedestrian, a 54-year-old, man was struck by a car at the junction causing him serious injuries. He was taken to hospital where he sadly died.

"Enquiries are on-going into the collision and police are appealing for witnesses.

"Anyone with information should contact West Mercia Police on 101 quoting reference 826s 131018."

Ambulances from West Midland Ambulance Service and Wales Ambulance Service were sent to the scene.

A paramedic officer was also in attendance, life support was provided and the victim was transported to the Wrexham Maelor Hospital, however he died shortly after arrival.

On Sunday tributes were paid to Mr Norcross, who was a regular at the home of the Welsh league champions.

Club owner and chairman Mike Harris said: "The sad news of the loss of Steve has come as a huge shock to me and the club.

"He was such a great fellow, one of the lads, but always kind and considerate to all. In this we have lost a very dear person, whom I am proud to have called a friend.

"Our feelings and deepest sympathy go out to all his family and friends, who I know will miss him dearly."
