Sheep in a field on the side of the Pool Quay straight, approaching the town, were left stranded by the flood water after bad weather in Mid Wales on Saturday.

They were pictured by Welshpool Fire Service were their heads just above the water, and a joint operation was launched to bring them to safety

A specialist water rescue crew from Welshpool Fire Station led the operation, and were joined by RSPCA officials and local famers.

A spokesperson for the station said: "They were cold and stressed but it was a good team effort to get them to safety."

Flooding hit other areas of the town, with the A490 near Welshpool Airport cut off by flood water.

Down the road in Newtown, a culvert burst near to the town's high school, however local authority workers were called and the issue was dealt with.
