Bikers' boost for good causes
Members of the West Midlands Chapter of Masonic motorcycling association “The Widows Sons” and its support group for non-masons, the “Bad Pennies, West Midlands” will be presenting cheques to good causes on Saturday, May 22.
The presentation to representatives of the Poppy Appeal and the National Memorial Arboretum, which is taking place at the National Memorial Arboretum at Alrewas, had been due to take place in November but was postponed because of the renewed coronavirus lockdown.
"The Widows Sons" is open to all Master Masons from all over the West Midlands who have a mutual passion for motorbikes and supporting worthy causes. Membership spans areas including Wolverhampton, Cannock, Stafford, Rugeley, Hednesford, Walsall, Kidderminster, and Shrewsbury.
Supported by the "Bad Pennies" the group has through lockdown raised money in a variety of ways, including online auctions, raffles and football cards.
The amounts raised are: £200 to the National Memorial Arboretum; £200 to the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal; £700 to Midland Free Wheelers; £700 to Shropshire, Staffordshire and Cheshire Blood Bikes – volunteers who bike blood around the country; and £600 to the RAF Benevolent Fund.
After Saturday's event the group will be making a series of further presentations.
