On air we go in radio event comeback

Telford and District Amateur Radio Society’s Hamfest returns on Sunday, September 5, after a year out caused by the Covid pandemic.

The event aimed at radio enthusiasts from all over the country is at Harper Adams University at Edgmond and will feature rooms full of traders, outdoor traders, presentations on a variety of radio related subjects, demonstrations, and a special event radio station.

Hamfest opens at 10.15am with an entry fee of £5, but free to accompanied children of school age. This year the electronics and radio event has 29 traders and exhibitors, a bring and buy stand and club sales stand.

The presentations include one by a well known YouTuber titled "Amateur Radio is not Dead – Here is Why."

Other features are a satellite station where society members will be demonstrating how to use the QO-100 satellite with video signals and other modes.

Shropshire Linux users group will have a demonstration stand and will be running a special radio station to celebrate 30 years of the Linux operating system, and there will be a display of military vehicles and radio equipment organised by Simon Shillabeer of Malpas.
