Deadliest catch: Scary moment fisherman realises he's pulled a real WWII grenade out of the River Wye
A fisherman was all excited when he pulled what looked like a World War II hand grenade out of the River Wye on Sunday... until he realised it was possibly real.
Alfie Rock, 18, was magnet fishing in Hereford with his friend and colleague Zak Carroll, 18, on May 28, and they were filming to showcase their finds.
On camera, the pair can be seen pulling the explosive out of the water and joking about it looking like a grenade. But naturally, they soon came to the realisation that it could actually be one.
Alfie called the police and they swiftly contacted the bomb disposal squad who came out to analyse the discovery. It turned out to be a live American hand grenade with a "pull denonator" from World War II.
West Mercia Police told Shropshire Star: "We were called to Victoria Bridge in Hereford shortly after 4pm on Sunday after a call from a magnet fisherman reporting he had pulled what looked to be a live grenade complete with a pull detonator out of the River Wye.
