Telford resident, Luci Creed, posted on social media this week reporting that two trees on Stirchley Road have been cut down.
The borough council was contacted by the resident and responded by visiting the site to make it safe, and said they have reported criminal damage to West Mercia Police.
Luci says a chestnut tree opposite the turning into St James Crescent was cut back and those who did it "left the mess". She added that a "healthy" oak tree was then cut down last Sunday (October 27).
The resident claimed that the tree hit a street lamp and was lying partly in the road.
A Telford & Wrekin Council spokesperson said: "We received a report of a tree that had been illegally felled and attended the site quickly to make the site safe and ensure that the damaged lamppost was also made safe.
“We reported this criminal damage to the police for further investigation who have asked that we leave the damaged tree in situ for now while they investigate.
"Wanton vandalism of this kind in our community, which then has to be put right at the expense of the taxpayer, is unacceptable and we'll support the police as much as we can in their pursuit of those responsible.”
