Limited rural amenities "must be protected" – MP calls to save Post Office

An MP is campaigning to save a Shropshire Post Office after closure plans have been revealed.

North Shropshire MP, Helen Morgan posted on social media on Monday pledging her support to help keep Cockshutt Post Office open.

The Liberal Democrat MP said The Post Office is planning to shut the 'Outreach Hub' due to the merger of the Bryn Hafod and Kingsmill Road branches in Wrexham - from where the service is run.

Mrs Morgan believes it is crucial to keep services in rural areas and communities such as Cockshutt, and has requested that the Post Office continues its outreach services.

"The Post Office says that it plans to shut the Cockshutt Outreach Hub due to the merger of the Bryn Hafod and Kingsmill Road branches in Wrexham, from where the service here is run.

"My view is that the limited amenities that are available in rural areas like Cockshutt must be protected, not cut. I have requested that the Post Office continue to offer outreach services, whoever they may be provided by.

"A public consultation on the matter is still open, which I discussed with local campaigner Sarah Marston recently. Residents can share their views by emailing comments@postoffice.co.uk."
