Montgomeryshire Agricultural Association celebrates stars of the year

The Montgomeryshire Agricultural Association held its annual presentation dinner at Llanfair Caereinion Leisure Centre.

More than  175 people attended and awards were presented to winners of 25 different classes. 

The Association is extremely grateful to the Wynnstay group for its support and sponsorship of these competitions and the schedule produced to promote this successful annual event. 

Members of the assocation thanked the NFU for their sponsorship of the New Entrant Into Farming Competition and the FUW for their sponsorship of The Presentation Evening. 

The Association also praised the staff at the Leisure Centre for their hard work ensuring that this evening was a success. The Chairperson of the Association, Mrs Gwyneth Owen thanked all concerned for making the evening so successful.

The Association continues to forge links with the YFC movement and Coleg Powys Newtown  in order to sustain and move the Association forward. 

Cara Smith from Llanfair Caereinion YFC has been sponsored to attend the British Cattle Breeders Conference in Telford as a result of winning the Senior Stock Judging Competition at the 2024 YFC Field Day.

 Ioan Phillips an Agricultural Student at Coleg Powys, Newtown, was presented with a cheque for £75.00 as winner of the Best Agricultural Student, Newtown College.

Best Farmhouse Vegetable Garden: Wynn Jones, Trefeglwys.

Best Farm House Flower Garden: Glyn and Glenys Lloyd, Llanfyllin.

Conservation: Sustainable Farm Environment: Mick and Sandy Jones, Guilsfield.

Hedge Laying: Best Laid Hedge October 2023-March 2024:  Hedge laid by John Gwalchmai for F. Humphreys &Son, Welshpool.

Hedge Laying: Best Growth: Hedge laid by Danny Williams for Marcus Williams, Llandinam.

Equine: Fraithwen Freisans, Adfa, Newtown.

Best on Farm Innovation:  Geraint Woosnam, Newtown.

Arable : Best Field of Winter Barley: Colin Trow, Forden.

Best Field of Winter Wheat: S.L Price& Co Llanwnog.

Best Field of Spring Barley: J Bowker, Llanymynech.

Best Field of Maize: J.C Jones, Churchstoke.

Beef : Best Pedigree Herd: C.V Lewis & Son, Buttington.

Best Commercial Herd: David Jones, Welshpool.

Sheep: Best Flock of Purebred Sheep: Michael and Emma Davies, Caersws.

Best Flock of Commercial Sheep:  Marc Griffiths, Llansantffraid

Best Flock of Pedigree Sheep: Michael and Emma Davies, Caersws.

Dairy: Large Herd: John Corfield, Marton.

New Entrant into Farming(Aged 40 and Under) : Luis Briscoe, Criggion.
