Train line reopens after blockage cleared on tracks between Telford and Shrewsbury

Train services have now been restored after a points failure on the tracks between Telford Central and Shrewsbury saw rail replacement services in operation.

West Midlands Railway said rail replacement services had been ordered on Wednesday morning a points failure in the Wellington area.

A points failure occurs when a movable section of the track, called points, stops working properly and is unable to route trains to their destination.

The incident in the Wellington area was first reported at around 8.40am on Wednesday. At 12.14pm, National Rail reported the incident had been cleared.

A spokesperson for West Midlands Railway said: "Due to a points failure between Shrewsbury and Telford Central the line towards Birmingham is blocked.

"Rail replacement transport has been ordered between Wolverhampton and Shrewsbury."

The disruption had impacted the Transport for Wales service between Holyhead/Crewe/Aberystwyth and Birmingham International and the West Midlands Railway service between Shrewsbury and Birmingham New Street.
