We held our county AGM, where I officially took over the  role  as chair from Max Porter and voted in the new vice chair, James Henderson from Dorrington YFC.

I’d like to congratulate Max on his year, and I am really looking forward to taking it on for 2024 to 2025.

We had a successful 80th celebration at Ludlow racecourse, which saw over 350 members past and present come together to celebrate.

Saturday, November 2 saw two of our members, Max Porter and Millie Evans from Brown Clee, and Whittington and Oswestry YFC be nominated and shortlisted for the National Federation of Young Farmers Achiever awards, in Aspiring rural leader, New Member and Community Spirit categories. It was a fantastic night, and all finalists deserved recognition and we, as a county are very proud of them.

We have also held our Rural Careers fair, which is new for this year. The idea of the event was to showcase the possible jobs in the agricultural and food industries, we have over 25 businesses and the local agricultural colleges and university in attendance too.

There were also some careers talks covering agricultural engineering, veterinary science, life in the food industry, agricultural marketing and land agency.

Our first rounds of competitions are set to with lots of speaking competitions.

Members will be strutting their stuff for the ballroom dancing and cheerleading competition.

Many clubs will also be starting to think about rehearsals for our performing arts competition which will be Panto this year and will be held at The Edge Theatre, Much Wenlock from February 18-21.

As we look to the festivities we have our annual County carol service at Holy Trinity in Much Wenlock, which will see Shropshire YFC members make their nativity debut.

The illuminated tractor run takes place on Sunday,  December 15 at Shrewsbury Livestock market by kind permission of Halls Ltd.

This year we will be raising money for RABI, SFYFC and my two chosen charities which are Severn Hospice and The Cavalier Centre.

The tractors will be departing at 6pm but there will be a craft fair starting at 4.30pm and we even have a visit from the big man himself! Hope to see you there,
