Shaun Stringer pleaded guilty to one charge of threatening the mother of his children with the knife he was using to cut the cake, one count of common assault and one charge of criminal damage, a court was told on Wednesday.

“They had been together since 2005 and have five children,” said prosecutor Sara Beddow at Telford Magistrates Court during a sentencing hearing. Stringer had admitted the charges earlier this year.

“He had been aggressive throughout the argument on January 7.

“He threw the cake and a plastic plate and said 'you're lucky this knife does not go into your head'.”

The court was told that Stringer, who then lived with her in Green Moors, Lightmoor, in Telford, had been his wife's carer before the row broke out.

The court was told that Stringer threw the cake and plate at her but had caused no injury.
