A biker who was caught speeding at 113mph on a 70mph Powys road has told a court ‘it will not happen again’.

Michael Baylis was on the A40 Brecon Bypass on May 12 at 11.46am when he hit the high speed, which was recorded by a laser.

The 61 year-old of Staverton Way, Kingswood, Bristol admitted speeding when he appeared at Llandrindod Wells Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

The court was told he had a previous offence in March 2022 when he received three points on his licence for speeding in a 30mph zone.

Representing himself, Mr Baylis said the speed was excessive and it was a lack of judgement.

“I have travelled through France and Italy since then without any misdemeanours. I apologise for going so fast, it was a lack of judgement, it is easy to do on a motorcycle.”

He said a disqualification would probably affect his employment as a HGV driver for an electricity company. He said he drives for them but also does other work, and he handed in a letter from his employer.

“A massive apology, at my age I should know better and it will not happen again,” he said.

Magistrates fined him £646 and they banned him from the road for 45 days. He will also have to pay a £258 victim surcharge and £90 costs.
