An illuminated charity tractor run will light up this year’s town council Christmas event in Builth Wells.

The tractor run will be just one part of the festivities, with a Santa meet and greet at local schools and nurseries, and the popular Santa’s grotto with the main man delivering gifts to youngsters, all planned this year.

The tractor run and grotto at the Strand Hall will take place on Saturday, December 14 from 6pm.

The tractors accompanied by Santa will set off from Builth Wells market, parade through the town where Santa will be dropped off at the Grotto, as the tractors continue to Cilmery, Llanafan and then back to the Royal Welsh Showground in Llanelwedd.

The idea has been organised by Builth Wells Town Council with the help of Builth Wells Young Farmers Club and Brecknock YFC, whose members will be helping on the evening.

It will raise money for two charities – the Builth Wells branch of Cancer Research UK and Hear to Help, a local charity, set up in memory of Rhianna Thomas.

Builth Wells Mayor Councillor Gwyn Davies said: “The tractor run will be a new event for us and we thought we would combine it with the grotto, to make it a really lovely evening for families just before Christmas.

“On Friday, December 13 we will be doing a special run with the sleigh and Santa around the schools and nurseries in the town for the children to see and meet and greet Santa.

“Then the youngsters will be formally invited to the grotto the following day, where Santa will hand out gifts to the children.”

The organisers are looking for volunteers on the night, sponsors or to take part in the tractor run or to donate something for the raffle, contact Councillor Davies on 07989 582799.
