Rhayader Town Council has supported plans for a takeaway in town instead of a newsagents shop.

Applicant Anne Powell has applied for permission to create the Indian takeaway at Wye Cottage, a former newsagents on North Street, which closed in April this year.

Rhayader Town Council considered the change of use application recently.

Councillor Rhys Thomas said: “I think this is fantastic that a shop in town is going to be used again.”

County Councillor Angela Davies said: “I am not aware of any reason to object to this application for change of use, it retains the property for business use and allows a popular eatery to continue trading in the town.”

Members agreed to recommend approval of the plans and Powys County Council will make a final decision by December 3.

Meanwhile, did not support a plan to install a vehicle access and dropped kerb at 4 Green Gardens, Rhayader.

Applicant Gary Glossop said in his application; “I would like to have a drop kerb completed to allow vehicle access to the front of the property to create off road parking.”

Although there were different views, councillors were concerned about the possible loss of any on-street parking for the general public if the dropped kerb and access went ahead.
