Seb Reeve from Wellington has been selected for the role by the Swimming Teachers Association (STA) - a governing body and educational charity that is dedicated to the teaching of swimming and water safety.

After a nationwide search in the summer and hundreds of applicants, the STA has chosen five young people to be part of the 2025 Water Safety Squad, including Seb.

At just nine years old, the Telford swimmer is a National Age Group medallist in Artistic Swimming and a National level Gymnast.

As part of his role in the Water Safety Squad, Seb will represent the STA during International Learn to Swim Week (ILSW) that takes place in May each year, and annually sees more than 3,500 swim schools across 30 countries take part.

The STA said Seb was chosen for his role in celebration of his achievements in artistic swimming, and for the fact that he would love to inspire more boys to take up the sport.

His swimming journey started at an early age - following in the footsteps of his mum Zoe who is a professional artistic swimmer - and by the time he was seven, Seb had completed all the levels within the STA’s International Learn to Swim Programme (ILSP).

On becoming a member of the Water Safety Squad, Seb said: “I’m looking forward to being a water safety ambassador for STA so that I can share my love for the water, and help promote the benefits of learning to swim and staying water safe.

“Like my mum, I also love artistic swimming, and if I can inspire more boys to take up this amazing sport that would be great."

The STA’s CEO Dave Candler added: “Each one of our squad members have their own reasons for wanting to be part of our 2025 Water Safety Squad, including Seb who is a phenomenally talented youngster and has achieved so much in his sport at such a young age - he will be a fantastic role model.”

The five members of the STA Water Safety Squad will all meet for the first time in November at Waterworld in Stoke-on-Trent, where they will receive a special goody bag and squad uniform.
