BMW car smashes into house by busy West Midlands road leaving front door 'off its hinges' - people treated by ambulance crew
A car has crashed into a house in Telford causing "severe damage" and paramedics have attended.
The BMW saloon car hit a semi-detached house off the B5061 Holyhead Road in Ketley at around 10.30am on Sunday and badly damaged a corner of the house including the front door.
999 calls were made and the Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS), West Midlands Ambulance Service and West Mercia Police all attended.
Three fire engines were sent from Telford Central and Wellington stations. Police closed Holyhead Road from the roundabout with Mossey Green Way and Wombridge Way.
Daniel Watkins described the state of the house when he saw it shortly after the crash: "When I was walking past, I saw there was quite a few police cars, ambulance and fire engine where the road had been taped off.
"The state of the house when looking up close looked extremely bad as the front door is completely twisted and most likely off its hinges.
"When looking at the brick wall it was a completely different story with a BMW wedged into the side of the house with the bricks all over the car leaving the house unsafe and exposed."
He expressed his "warmest regards" to the homeowners.
Su Jay, who works at a Shell garage near the house, told the Shropshire Star: "I didn't see anything, I just heard the car go into the house. Police and ambulance are still there.
"Police have closed Holyhead Road from the island."
A statement from the SFRS said: "Saloon vehicle involved in collision with domestic building which has sustained severe damage. Crews have isolated external gas supply and no further action can be taken by crews until electrics and internal gas isolated to property by utilities companies.
"Structural engineer to attend to carry out inspection.
"All casualties in care of ambulance service."
Trio Furnishings, a business based a few hundred metres up Holyhead Road from the house that was hit, posted on Facebook about the crash.
"There has been a major accident this morning by the shell petrol station in Ketley. We hope everyone is ok.
"If you need to access Trio Furnishings, Farmfoods, Lighthouse Church or Just For Pets today you can access the retail park from the Holyhead Road from the opposite direction.
"We hope everyone is safe in this serious situation. Thank you everybody."
West Midlands Ambulance Service said they attended but the occupant refused treatment.
A spokesperson said: "We were called at 10.35am on Sunday (10th November 2024) to reports of a car which had collided with a property on Holyhead Road, Ketley, Telford. One ambulance attended the scene. The driver, a man, declined assessment and was discharged on scene. Two occupants of the property were assessed and discharged on scene."
West Mercia Police said they were called at 10.30am.
A spokesperson said: "We received a call around 10:30am yesterday morning with a report of a road traffic collision on Holyhead Road , Ketley. Officers arrived to find a car had collided with a property."
