A house next door to Hong Kong City, a Chinese takeaway in Bayston Hill, Shrewsbury, was hit by the HGV, which took out a huge chunk of brickwork and left a gaping hole behind. The vehicle also crashed into the Three Fishes pub next door, leaving behind a trail of destruction.

The driver had to be cut free from the lorry and suffered a broken leg, according to his boss at Chilton Bulk Transport.

Now a JustGiving page has been set up for the family running the Chinese by Chloe Broxton, who said the house and takeaway have been “condemned”.

“I'm raising £750 to help support a family that has been devastated by an accident that has condemned both their home and their business,” she said.

“There was an accident involving a lorry on the A49 on the 11/11/2024, which caused this busy stretch of road to be closed to a prolonged period of time due to damage.

“The lorry hit the home and business of a family, while they slept in their beds, before plummeting into the side of The 3 Fishes pub.

“The house and Chinese takeaway (Hong Kong City) have been condemned, therefore this family has lost their home, as well as their business and income, which they use to independently support themselves and four children.

“This is a devastating and traumatic time for the family and I feel that some financial help during this time, while finances and insurances are being worked out would really be helpful for this family who have lost everything.”
