Alan Briscoe, aged 62, is facing trial for causing bodily harm by wanton or furious driving after colliding with a man near Havana nightclub in Shrewsbury late in the evening on August 1, 2022.
Shrewsbury Crown Court was shown CCTV footage which showed a mobility scooter collide with the victim, Mr Robert Taylor, on Abbey Foregate at around 10.20pm.
It showed Mr Taylor hit the ground before getting up, holding onto his arm, and stumbling away.
“The prosecution say he (Briscoe) didn’t stop, slow down or take evasive action,” said Rosemary Proctor, prosecuting.
The first witness to be called was Christopher Lee, who had recently returned to the UK after working as a combat medic in Ukraine.
Mr Lee told the court he had pulled up next to the nearby Flaming Great takeaway in his car so his partner could pop in and get food when he felt “a gust of wind” as a vehicle went past his right hand side.
