Changes to the opening hours of minor injury units at Llandrindod Wells War Memorial Hospital and Breconshire War Memorial Hospital will start from Monday, November 18

A period of public engagement recently took place to seek feedback on proposed temporary changes to services in Powys as part of an ongoing conversation with residents to ensure that NHS services are safe and sustainable for the future.

At a meeting of the Board on October 10, members approved proposals for temporary changes to some minor injury services in the county.

The revised opening hours, will be 8am until 8pm at both hospitals seven days a week.

The hours at Welshpool hospital will be 8am until 8pm seven days a week and at Ystradgynlais it will be 8.30am until 4pm Monday to Friday, except bank holidays and these are unchanged.

Adults and children over two years old with a wide range of injuries can be treated at minor injury units. You can visit for broken bones (Fractures), dislocations, sprains and strains, wounds and minor burns, simple insect stings without complications, insect, animal and human bites, foreign bodies to eyes, ears and nose, head or face injuries if there is no loss or change in level of consciousness, non-penetrating eye and ear injuries and minor injuries

Outside of the opening hours of the Minor Injury Units the NHS 111 Wales service  can be contacted 24 hours a day for health information and advice, including minor injuries.

Anyone experiencing life-threatening symptoms, should call 999 immediately or visit the nearest A&E department .

Walk in will always be accepted at Powys MIUs, though it can be helpful to call first in order that we can provide you with immediate advice over the telephone, book you in to an appointment or even advise you of an alternative service. Please call 01597 828735 for Llandrindod and 01874 615800 for Brecon
