Police issue update on pair arrested on suspicion of firearms offence after 'assault' in Cleobury Mortimer

A 58-year-old man and a 57-year-old woman were arrested on Tuesday on suspicion of assault and suspicion of possession of a firearm after armed police responded to an incident near a school in Cleobury Mortimer.

The incident, which saw a man suffer a minor head injury, happened at around 11.35am near the Lacon Childe School on Love Lane on Tuesday morning.

Following the arrests, police officers moved to reassure residents that there was "no risk to the wider public".

A spokesperson for West Mercia Police said: "We were called to Love Lane in Cleobury Mortimer at around 11.35am today (Tuesday, November 12), following a report of an assault.

"Officers have attended and one man was found to have a minor head injury.

"A 58-year-old man and a 57-year-old woman have been arrested on suspicion of assault and suspicion of possession of a firearm."

On Wednesday morning, West Mercia Police confirmed the man remained in custody, while the woman had been released under investigation.
