Teenagers unite to bring ‘The Snowsmith’ to Builth Wells
Half a String theatre company will be performing the winter play ‘The Snowsmith’ at the Strand Hall, Builth Wells on Wednesday, November 20 at 6pm, thanks to the efforts of a group of a dozen local teenagers
Led by 12-year-old Edie Allpress, Builth Wells Young Promoters, based at Builth Wells Pottery HWB, has decided to bring more opportunities for young people to see and take part in authentic expressive arts.
On the night of the show, the teenagers will take charge of running the box office, showing people to their seats and delivering speeches.
“The project has added value to our school curriculum and helps us to make huge leaps forward in confidence, motivation and interpersonal skills,” said Edie.
Young Promoters is a fully funded programme for schools and charitable or afterschool clubs which provides opportunities for young people to learn and understand the jobs and work involved in putting on a community event.
Since its inception in 2005, more than 300 projects have been funded in schools and youth groups across Wales, most often in areas of social deprivation and rural isolation.
A Young Promoter project takes place over a series of six weekly workshops where participants learn all about the processes involved in event management.
‘The Snowsmith’ is a wintery tale of courage, invention and friendship for the whole family to enjoy. Join inventor Eira as she explores rivers, mountains and mines, meeting giant sea beasts, mischievous goats and finding unlikely friends in the strangest of places.
Set in the “grumpy town of Thawmor”, the hour long play feature stunning illustrations by acclaimed artist Greg Stobbs alongside rhythmic prose by Henry Madd.
The play will be followed by a question and answer session with the directors and actors.
