James Mold was in the dock at Shrewsbury Crown Court having been caught with a stash of 176 images including 58 of category A - depicting the most depraved kind of child sex abuse.

The 40-year-old, who “readily admits” his sexual attraction to young boys, was also found to have three extreme pornographic images of a man having sex with a dog.

Judge Anthony Lowe noted that there has been more public debate around such offending recently after “high profile” people were involved - possibly in reference to the case of BBC newsreader Huw Edwards, who was recently convicted of similar offences.

He also told Mold that there is “no magic bullet” to cure him of his sexual interest.

The court was told that police attended Mold’s home address on October 20, 2020 and seized a laptop and two phones. The explicit material was found on the laptop and one of the phones.

As well as the category A images, Mold also had 87 category B and 31 category C in his collection.
