Shrewsbury man who strangled, punched and spat at his partner sent to the prison cells with judge's warning ringing in his ears
A man who strangled and assaulted his partner of seven years has been sent to prison for 28 months.
Shrewsbury Crown Court heard that the woman told Kyle Brayne that she loved him even after he grabbed her round the throat, punched her, pinned her to the bed and spat on her face.
That was at their home in Baschurch, near Shrewsbury on May 28, 2024 after an argument started when the then 22 year-old Brayne was drunk.
“She said she loved him and he replied 'you are lucky I don't smash your face in,” said Sarah Turner, prosecuting at the court on Friday.
“She said she loved him again and he put his hands round her throat and squeezed.”
The woman fought back, hitting him and he punched her, the court heard.
One month later, on June 28, she told him she wished to end the relationship and he agreed as they talked about it.
They were discussing the logistics of the break up when the subject of their two children, one aged one and the other a three-year-old came up.
“He did not want her to take the children,” said Ms Turner.
“Then he locked the front door and took her phone out of her pocket.
“He grabbed her by the throat, pinned her against a wall and held her throat for 10 to 15 seconds.”
His partner went to see her GP about injuries and the GP called the police and Brayne was taken into custody.
