Schools visit college for partnership discussions

Senior leaders and executives from local secondary schools visited Telford College to explore ways of working in closer partnership.

A delegation from the Learning Community Trust, which runs five secondary schools in Telford & Wrekin, were invited to the college’s Wellington campus for a fact-finding tour which covered a wide range of topics.

“We gave the group a bespoke tour of our university-standard facilities, to showcase what we have to offer to young people,” said the college’s assistant principal Sarah Jones.

“It was a chance for us to review opportunities for partnership working with the Trust, and run information sessions about some specific projects which could be offered at their schools.

“These included AI and technology in the classroom – a look at how Microsoft Teams could be used effectively to maximise learning – and a discussion around ways in which the post-16 curriculum can be planned to maximise independence and support young people with special educational needs and disabilities.”

Sarah added: “This was the first stage of what we feel will be a productive and exciting collaboration with the Learning Community Trust. We have already booked in a follow-up date to discuss the next steps.” 

The Learning Community Trust runs Ercall Wood, Charlton, Hadley Learning Community, New Road Academy and Burton Borough secondary schools in Telford & Wrekin, as well as Queensway specialist academy and primary schools in Wellington, Ketley Bank, Allscott and Crudgington. 

Rachael Wilson, project and communications lead at the Trust, said: “Our leaders had an enjoyable and informative visit.

“It was an excellent opportunity to share good practice and discuss ways to work in closer partnership - with the shared aim of providing exceptional learning opportunities for our community.”
