Shropshire Council has confirmed that permissive footpath 0218/P1/1 that runs from Bottom Lane through the Market Drayton Nature Reserve to Walkmill Meadows has been closed.

The footpath became a permissive footpath - a route on private land that a landowner allows the public to use - in 2010 after an agreement was made with the, then, landowners.

However, the local authority has revealed that a request was received during October from a solicitor acting on behalf of the current landowners requesting that the agreement was ended, and the footpath was closed.

A Shropshire Council spokesperson said: "As with all permissive footpaths, if or when the landowner decides to withdraw permission for the route to be used by the general public, then that route ceases to exist.
