A crown court judge told 31-year-old Josh Chase to think about what example he sets for his young son.
Chase, of Kings Avenue, Market Drayton, had pleaded guilty at Telford Magistrates Court to one charge of wounding without intent in the Crown pub in the town on Friday, January 26.
Jessica Foster, prosecuting, told Shrewsbury Crown Court on Friday that there had been "no evidence of animosity" between Chase and the man he hit.
But “there was some sort of disagreement” next to the pool table at about 10.18pm that was recorded on CCTV.
The court was told that after his victim had been sent sprawling Chase had been asked why he did it. He replied: “Because I did.”
Ms Foster said Chase had no history of violence but had a drink driving offence against his name in 2010 and a drunk and disorderly conviction from 2015.
Rosemary Proctor, defending, said the "hard-working" factory worker was lightly convicted and had pleaded guilty at the earliest opportunity.
She handed judge Anthony Lowe a reference from Chase's employer which he read in advance of the sentencing.
