Theo Desouza Shah had ignored the pleas of his two now former friends to slow down as he was giving them a lift home from visiting pubs on the evening of September 7, 2023, a court heard.
Shrewsbury Crown Court was told that Desouza Shah, of Strine Way, Newport, undertook a Mini being driven at about 8mph away from a junction in Wrockwardine, near Wellington, by a woman who was leaving a gardening club at 9.20pm.
The court on Friday was told that the woman felt buffeted by the Volvo V90 as it undertook her at speed, scraping along a wall and up an embankment before it slammed into a stone wall at Drummery Lane.
The court heard that Desouza Shah said "I did not know the bend was there," when he was spoken to at the scene.
All the airbags went off and the car had been driven after dark in an unlit lane, the court heard.
One of the passengers received a broken wrist and back and had to have surgery.
The other received surgery for a broken jaw and is scarred 'for life'.
Stuart Jones, prosecuting, said Desouza Shah had “one and at most two drinks” and the passengers had expressed their concerns about his driving.
