Knighton will celebrate Christmas with a light switch-on event, festive music and gifts from Santa for children.

The town council has been busy planning the event, which will take place on Saturday, December 7.

The fun in Broad Street will start from about 5.45pm when Knighton Silver Band will be playing festive music and carols.

Then Santa and Knighton Mayor Councillor Chris Branford will lead the big countdown to the Christmas lights being switched on at about 6pm.

Children will then be able to go down to the Civic Centre at 6.15pm to meet Santa in his grotto and receive a little gift to take home with them. The gifts will all be wrapped and age appropriate for each child, thanks to the hard work of festive elves behind the scenes.

Councillor Branford said; “Knighton Town Council hopes everyone will enjoy the Christmas light switch-on event this year. Thank you to Becky and Scott Fowkes for donating the town’s Christmas tree and to Restorella for putting together a beautiful Santa’s grotto and to Nicky Tranter, tree surgeon, for donating the presents. Some shops will stay open a bit later on that evening.”
