The landmark visitor attraction has sat in the graveyard at St Chad's Church since 1984.

It has been hugely popular with locals and tourists, and serves as a reminder of Shrewsbury's central role in the much-loved 1984 version of 'A Christmas Carol'.

But there was shock on Sunday when it was revealed that the gravestone had been smashed into several pieces.
