Firefighters successfully tackled a terrifying late night car fire - protecting a nearby house

A fire crew was called to deal with a major car fire late on Wednesday evening.

One crew from Ellesmere Fire Station was sent to the scene of the incident, at Hanmer.

Pictures released by the fire station show the shocking extent of the blaze, with fire officers using hoses to tackle a car completely engulfed in flames.

An update on the incident said that the crew was sent to the scene at around 11.15pm, and was able to tackle the fire quickly, protecting the nearby house.

A post on the Ellesmere Fire Station social media page said: "We were mobilised to reports of a car fire in Hanmer.

"On arrival, we found one vehicle fully involved in fire and in close proximity to the property.

"Crews worked quickly to extinguish the fire and protect the house. Crews were back at home station by 00.45 . Stay safe."
