Appeal after young Newport footballer hit by car on way home from school and left with fractured skull
A youth football club is appealing for help to find a driver after an under-nines player was hit by a car and left with a fractured skull.
A social media post from Newport's Nova United Football Club explained that the young boy was in hospital being treated for his injuries.
Sharing an appeal for any witnesses to the incident, it explained that the boy had been walking home from school with his grandmother when it happened.
The club said: "Unfortunately a player from our under-nines age group was hit by a car on Wednesday near the crossing on Granville Road, Newport, whilst walking home around 3.30pm from school with his nan.
"He's currently in hospital and has suffered a skull fracture along with current hearing and balance issues. Hopefully he'll make a full recovery."
The club also shared an appeal from the youngster's parents, asking for anyone who witnessed what had happened to get in touch.
They said: "We’re trying to locate the car involved. I visited the area but couldn’t find any security cameras."
They added that the boy and his grandmother could not remember the car’s colour or make, "only that it was driven by a middle-aged man with other passengers".
They added: "The driver briefly got out of the car while a few ladies came to help but drove away without interacting.
"We’re looking for any witnesses who might have noted the car’s details or reported it to the police."
Anyone with information is asked to contact West Mercia Police.
