Councillor Marcia Morgan said members have worked jointly with volunteers to put on a firework display, complete final preparations for the town’s festive events and Remembrance Day.

She said she had helped members of the Royal British Legion and other volunteers and Councillor Steve Deeks D’Silva to put the lamppost poppies up in town.

Councillor Morgan said she also popped into Tesco to see how the poppy appeal was doing and she spoke to Ysgol Cefnllys, who were being shown the war memorial by their teachers and having the relevance of the memorial explained to them.

“I spent time chatting with the children and they were excitedly telling me that some of them would be taking part in the parade on Sunday. They were also fascinated by the Mayor’s chain which I showed them and the Town Council Office Building as they were asking where I worked,” she said.

She said the town council had received many congratulatory and supportive comments about the firework display. She thanked everyone who worked with the town council to make the event a success, especially the football and rugby clubs, the Round Table, the emergence services and others.

Councillor Morgan also thanked those who kindly sent in photographs and videos.

The town’s Remembrance Sunday parade and service was well attended by the local community and she said a short service also took place at the  War Memorial Hospital and wreaths were laid.

“Thank you and well done to all of those involved in organising today and to those who took part. Once again, it was an honour to be part of this emotive day,” said Councillor Morgan, who also attended a service at the war memorial on Armistice Day itself.

She said donations this month had been given to Glenys Bufton Animal Rescue and Llandrindod Wells Air Training Corps.

“The first part of the Commemorate D Day 80 Video which the Town Council made with local residents has now been put on our Facebook page with the second part to follow soon.

“Final preparations for our Town’s Festive Events are being done – there are lots of things to look forward to and our town will definitely be ‘sparkling’ this year,” Councillor Morgan added

Events are advertised via the town council’s Facebook page and on posters in town.
