The event was originally set to take place the previous Saturday (November 23), but due to the "strong possibility" of adverse weather as Storm Bert swept across the UK, the festive fun was put back a week.
Moreover, flood barriers were installed in the Telford town last Monday due to a flood threat to areas along the River Severn after the storm brought heavy downpours.
The barriers were removed on Wednesday and roads were swept, allowing the town to "return to normal" in time for the Christmas lights switch-on on Saturday.
It drew crowds from across Shropshire who enjoyed fireworks next to the world heritage site and famous Iron Bridge.
St Luke's Church showcased its beautiful Christmas tree display, put together by volunteers, while Coalbrookdale School choir performed in front of the crowds.
Borough councillor for the Ironbridge Gorge Carolyn Healy posted pictures of the festive fun on social media, hailing a successful event, and wished everyone in Ironbridge a merry Christmas.
She said: "Another fantastic Christmas lights switch-on in Ironbridge. Thank you to all those involved in organising especially Kim Warren from The Little Christmas Shop and Mrs Claus’ Kitchen, and Derek Bowen from Moonshine and Fuggles who pulled everything together in record time.
"Also to the volunteers at St Luke’s Church for another wonderful Christmas tree display. Lovely to see the Coalbrookdale School choir singing Christmas carols.
