Steve Piper had played Scrooge in last year's Two Score Theatre Co production of A Christmas Carol at St Laurence's Church in Ludlow despite Motor Neurone Disease.

He had contracted the disease in 2023, but his performance and a very funny and moving speech afterwards were extraordinary.

Now, in 2024 his fellow players will be putting on Charles Dickens' Great Expectations, again in aid of the Motor Neurone Disease Association.

Peter Hayter, of the group, said: “In Steve's memory, with the blessing of his widow Lindsay, we are hoping to match the £3,000 we managed to raise from last year's show, again in aid of MNDA.

“We sold out for A Christmas Carol, attracting an audience of nearly 300 to the church and ticket sales are going well.”

He added: “Steve lit up St Laurence’s with his brilliant portrayal of Ebenezer Scrooge in our 2023 production of A Christmas Carol. “

Two Score will return to the venue on Saturday December 6 for a one-off performance in his memory.

Directed by Kim Begley, who delivered A Christmas Carol to a full house last year, Two Score’s new presentation features music composed and performed by local musicians Steve Dunachie and David Gaukroger and Faith Brackenbury.
