Warning after scam codes spotted in Shrewsbury car parks

Fake QR codes have been stuck to some parking machines in Shrewsbury, warns the council.

The fear is that if people pay to park by using fake codes they will give their money to a scam operator. 

Shropshire Council does not use QR codes for payment on in its car parks.

A spokesperson for Shropshire Council said: “We’ve become aware that fake QR codes have been stuck to some of our pay and display parking machines in Shrewsbury.

“These codes link to a fraudulent website. Please do not scan the code. If you do – or have done – please don’t supply your bank details.

“If you see one of these QR code stickers – in Shrewsbury or elsewhere - please remove it if you can and/or report it to us.

”We do not have QR codes on any of our pay and display machines.”
