Twice in one day – points failures hit train services on key West Midlands route

A railway points failure hit railway services on a key West Midlands line not once but twice in one day.

The latest points failure at Wellington hit trains running between Wolverhampton and Shrewsbury and is expected to be the case until 4.15pm on Wednesday.

National Rail says trains running between Wolverhampton and Shrewsbury may be cancelled or delayed by up to 45 minutes.

It affects Transport for Wales services between Holyhead, Chester, Aberstwyth and Birmingham International and West Midlands Railway between Shrewsbury and Birmingham New Street.

Network Rail were reported to be on site.

The first points failure was reported clear at 10.06am only for it to recur at 1.19pm.
