Shropshire Council said it acted following complaints made to it by a resident about the tree at Washbrook Close, in Meole Brace.

The tree was axed in October and only a stump now remains.

Councillor Bernie Bentick, Shropshire Councillor for Meole Brace, said 14 protestors gathered at the site of the stump on Thursday morning.

He said deep frustration and anger remains in the community to what happened.
