The event is the latest to fall prey to the weather warnings, with a host already cancelled across Shropshire.

Nick Ralls, Chief Executive Officer of the Ironbridge Gorge Museum Trust, said: “We are very sorry to announce that due to the severe weather warnings and in particular the high winds forecast this Saturday we have had to take the decision to cancel our Victorian Christmas event at Blists Hill Victorian Town tomorrow, Saturday, December 7.

"We know that this news will be disappointing for family and friends planning to celebrate Christmas with us and children who were coming to see Santa in one of our grottos.

"However, visitor safety is always our priority, and we will be offering alternative dates on which they can use their tickets.

“Coalport China Museum, Jackfield Tile Museum and the Old Furnace will also close tomorrow due to safety risks posed by high winds. Coalbrookdale Museum of Iron, Enginuity, the Iron Bridge Tollhouse, the Museum of the Gorge and the Furnace Kitchen will all remain open.

"We anticipate reopening our museums as normal on Sunday, however we will continue to monitor the situation and will keep visitors up to date directly, via our website and on social media.”
