Fire crews tackle a blaze at a riverside bungalow in a Shropshire village

Five fire crews have been tackling a 'large bungalow fire'.

Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service said it had been alerted to the blaze, at Severnside in Highley, near Bridgnorth, at around 12.48pm today - Monday, December 9.

A total of five crews have been sent to the scene and have been pumping water from the River Severn to use in tackling the fire.

An update from the fire service said crews were faced with a blaze involving a brick-built bungalow with a timber frame extension.

They said the home had been evacuated and all occupants were accounted for.

Firefighters wearing breathing equipment were using hoses and jects to deal with the incident, an were being supported by officers from Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service.

An update on social media from Bridgnorth Fire Station said: "Crews currently working hard to control and contain a large bungalow fire in Highley. 

"Supported by Cleobury Mortimer Fire Station  06P2 and Wyre Forest Fire Station.

"Four appliances and three flexi duty officers in attendance. Water being supplied from the River Severn."
