The NALC awards are described as the pinnacle of nationwide recognition for parish and town councils which strive to enrich the lives of residents and enhance local areas.

They are designed to recognise and celebrate examples of innovation, dedication, and outstanding achievements delivered by local councils.

Each year, the awards attract a high number of entries.

This year, Oswestry Town Council has been shortlisted for the coveted 'Council of the Year Award' for its impact, leadership, collaboration and commitment to community.

Other shortlisted nominees are Charlton Kings Parish Council in Gloucestershire, Falmouth Town Council in Cornwall, Great Linford Parish Council in Buckinghamshire and Milton Keynes, and Houghton Regis Town Council, in Bedfordshire.

The Mayor of Oswestry Cllr Mike Isherwood said: “This recognition is testament to the work of my fellow councillors and staff who work so hard to create a better town for our community. I would also like to mention the many partners and community organisations we work with – this is recognition for the town as a whole and not just the council.

“Getting shortlisted for this award is a great achievement in itself. I am delighted and very proud.”

The winners will be announced at a parliamentary reception on February 25, 2025 at the House of Lords.
