The firm, which has a base on Welshpool's Severn Farm Industrial Estate, had employed around 60 people at the premises according to its website.

But in a statement BSW said that it was closing the site and relocating operations to its other premises in Melton and Carlisle.

A statement issued by the firm said: "Following a comprehensive review of its operations across all functions and business lines, BSW Group has confirmed that it is ceasing operations at BSW Timber Solutions in Welshpool.

"The business has made the decision with a view to better meet the demands of customers, improve profitability and strengthen its position in a challenging marketplace.

"Manufacturing operations will be moving to the BSW Timber Solutions site in Melton, while sales operations will be moving to BSW Timber’s well established customer service centre based in Carlisle.

"BSW Group would like to thank all employees affected for their hard work and dedication, especially during this difficult period, and we wish everyone the very best for the future."

The firm said the site had been the base for its 'builders’ merchant supply business stream'.

Along with on-site warehousing and loading bays it said Welshpool "has machining capabilities of 40,000m3 and a timber treatment facility with a capacity of 15,000m3".
