Shrewsbury MP and Mayor celebrate restaurant being named the best at Curry Awards

Shrewsbury's MP and Mayor joined local residents and customers at Lea Cross Tandoori to celebrate it being named the restaurant of the year at a national awards ceremony.

The restaurant in Pontesbury won Best Restaurant of the Year 2024 at the 15th annual Curry Life Awards. 

The flagship award ceremony was held at London’s Marriot Hotel in Grosvenor Square in October.

 MP for Shrewsbury, Julia Buckley and Mayor of Shrewsbury, Councillor David Vasmer joined customers to celebrate the restaurant's success.

Julia Buckley MP said: "Your reputation goes before you, everybody knows what a fabulous restaurant you have here. I hope that you are buoyed this evening by the atmosphere and the love in this room from your friends and neighbours.

"This restaurant provides a venue for people to come together not just for your delicious food but because of the warm welcome you provide and how much you are part of this community. There could not be a more worthy winner."

Mayor of Shrewsbury, Councillor David Vasmer added: "It is great to see Lea Cross Tandoori win this national prestigious award from the Curry Life magazine; I am personally proud that it was a restaurant here in Shrewsbury that won, a year that Shrewsbury is proud to have won Britain in Bloom and the Urbanism award, such an honour."

Also joining in the celebrations was Miss Shropshire, Eloise Sarasini who congratulated Lea Cross in winning the award and added that she was proud to represent the county in the Miss England competition and achieve a top 40 finish out of 22,000 people.

Partner in the restaurant Foyzul Hassan brought home the award and thanked the community for their support in the public vote.

Mrs Buckley and Mr Vasmer also met kitchen staff who were acknowledged for their hard work behind the scenes.
