Infrastructure chiefs Network Rail and train operator Transport for Wales say they are having to deal with damage across the network caused by 300 trees falling, power cuts and damage to signals and level crossings.

They then have to run trains on the lines to check they are safe before services can safely run.

Network Rail say the work is scheduled to be completed in time for services to recommence on Monday Morning, December 16.

Transport for Wales is running bus replacement services on the line between Shrewsbury and Swansea.

Some 65 train cancellations covering the weekend have already been announced.

A spokesperson for Transport for Wales said: “Due to heavy rain and strong winds caused by storm Darragh, Transport for Wales rail services operating between Shrewsbury and Swansea via the Heart of Wales have been suspended until Sunday December 15.

Replacement road transport will operate. Bus schedules may be found at https://tfw.wales/

“Rail replacement services will take longer than rail journey.

“Road transport calling points may be found on station information posters or https://tfw.wales/places/stations

“We apologise for the disruption to your journey.”

Services have also been cancelled between Llandudno and Blaenau Ffestiniog."
