On Wednesday evening, Telford & Wrekin Council's planning committee gave what should be the final green light on plans to redevelop the Telford Theatre in Oakengates.
Telford Theatre closed in March this year as work on the redevelopment of the town centre got underway.
The overall 'Theatre Quarter project' aims to regenerate the 1960's shopping precinct into what the council hopes will be a "modern, welcoming shopping experience".
The plans include the refurbishment of fourteen new shop frontages, several new town-centre homes, and the creation of a new enlarged public space to host events and the market.
But the heart of the development is the overhaul of Telford Theatre, which is being paid for by £15.5million of Levelling Up funding from the central government, and a £1.5m contribution from Telford & Wrekin Council.
The plans include the creation of a new bar and dining facility, a second smaller studio theatre that will seat 98 and improved backstage areas.
The main auditorium will become a two-tiered affair, with an increased audience capacity of 756.
It's hoped that the refurbished theatre will reopen in October 2026.
