A new pizzeria, ‘The Brothers’, has set up shop in a former Wellington pub, The Beacon.

It's looking like the new restaurant will open next Friday, with the Italian-trained chefs rolling out a full Italian menu in the new year.

Sally Themans, of Love Wellington, celebrated the restaurant's arrival and wished the new owners all the best for their future in the market town.

She added: "Wellington is becoming a foodie centre for Shropshire, with exciting street food popping up at the food court in the market, including the Red Brick Cafe as spin-off from Dough and Oil in Shrewsbury, Park Street Kitchen which is at the forefront of modern Caribbean cooking in the region and The Orange House fine and authentic tapas in the Market Square.

"The arrival of Italian-trained chefs to The Brothers Pizzeria will enhance Wellington's food offer and further boost the nighttime economy. It's more great news for Wellington."

In recent years, the historic market town has been undergoing a massive rejuvenation, with some 41 businesses having opened and 34 shop facades have been regenerated with help from Telford & Wrekin Council.

Investments include the purchasing of Wellington Market and the installation of a popular food court, the ongoing regeneration of the old YMCA building on Walker Street and improvements to footpaths, roads and street furniture.

A spokesperson for Telford & Wrekin Council said: "The creation of town centre living space will increase trade for local business, particularly those that are in the food and drink sector and are fuelling Wellington’s ‘foodie’ reputation."
