MP choses winner of Christmas card competition before showing it to the House of Commons speaker

A Shropshire MP has congratulated the winner of her Christmas card competition and shown the school pupil's work to The Speaker of the House of Commons.

North Shropshire MP, Helen Morgan has chosen Leo from Whixhall CE Primary School and Nursery as the winner of her Christmas card competition.

The youngster's design will be used on the MP's Christmas cards that will be sent to people across the Liberal Democrat MP's constituency. 

Mrs Morgan also showed Leo's design to the current Speaker of the House of Commons, Lindsay Hoyle.

A post by the MP said: "Wonderful to show Mr Speaker (and Attlee the cat) our winning Christmas card design! Well done to Leo aged 9 from Whixall CE Primary School and Nursery for his excellent work!"

The MP also thanked each pupil in the county who submitted a design for the competition.

It was tough for Mrs Morgan to choose a winner, and the MP commended runners up and gave special mentions to pupils including:

  • Eva from St Peters CE Primary, Wem

  • Adalynn Whitchurch Junior School

  • Adrienne from Ellesmere College

  • Robyn from Woodside Primary School 

  • Osian from Meadows Primary School

  • Rupert from Clive Primary School

  • Hettie from Bryn Offa

  • Zara from Weston Rhyn Primary School

Mrs Morgan said: "A bg thank you to every local pupil who submitted a design to my Christmas Card competition! The winner was Leo, aged 9, from Whixall CE Primary School, whose excellent card is going out to lots of people in North Shropshire this Christmas.

"There were superb runners up from all over which are printed on the back."
