At a planning meeting last Thursday, Market Drayton Town Council considered plans submitted by Joules for The Red Lion Inn on Great Hales Street.

Plans submitted requested for permission to make "internal changes" that include the creation of a new staircase to the first floor of the pub that will give access to the ladies toilets and a meeting room.

Joule's says the plans that will elevate the Red Lion’s offering as a quintessential town centre pub while preserving its heritage.

There are also plans to change the location location of the commercial kitchen, build an extension to link, and remove an outbuilding, and for the existing roof to be extended and carried across a new extension alongside an extension to the existing canopy.

Joules said the plans will elevate the Red Lion’s offering as a quintessential town centre pub while preserving the Grade II listed building's heritage.

No public comment was received on the planning application.

Chair of the planning committee at Market Drayton Town Council, Councillor Byron Chapman added on the extension: "It is a natural extension in terms of brick work and roof line to the canopy that is already on the property."

The plans were unanimously approved by councillors.
