The Bracken Singers commenced a new era with their new leader Vera Buckler, and piano accompanist Sue Turner, when they performed the first of 11 engagements before Christmas.
The first shows were at the Metropole Hotel on November 23 and 24, as part of the Hotel’s annual Christmas Fayre.
Their seasonal programme with a suitable mix of carols and popular Christmas songs was very well received by the large number of locals, hotel residents and visitors attending on the two days.
Following the performances the Singers had favourable comments about their efforts.
At midday on the following Friday the Bracken Singers were present to entertain at Holy Trinity Church, Llandrindod Wells for the Bracken Trust’s annual Christmas Fair.
Again the Singers’ Christmas programme was well received, comments including “you sang beautifully with lots of joy and gusto when it was needed”.
Comments from the back of the Church confirmed that the singing sounded very good and clear.
This final weekend of November proved to be very busy for the Singers because on the Saturday despite the rainy conditions they entertained at the Bandstand as part of Llandrindod’s Christmas Market.
The surprisingly high number of watchers and passers- by seemed to appreciate the seasonal music despite the drizzly damp day.
Whilst Sunday December 1 brought the biggest occasion and test of Vera’s era so far.
They opened the evening’s high class and very successful “Carols by Candlelight” Concert at the Metropole Hotel.
The Bracken Singers were followed by pupils of Cefnllys School, Ysgol Calon Cymru Secondary School, Voices in Unity and the Rhayader &District Male Voice Choir were the leading and final act.
Also taking part were Mared Carrod playing the harp and soloist Holly Richards of Llandegley.
The concert was organised to raise money for The Bracken Trust by their new charity fundraiser, Emma Coates.
