Fire brigade kept busy after two house fire incidents on opposite sides of Shropshire

Fire crews were kept busy after responding to house fire incidents at opposite ends of Shropshire.

The crews from Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service were called out to two fires which had broken out at houses in Shifnal and Oswestry within about 15 minutes of each other.

The first fire saw crews from Telford Central called to Wheatfield Drive in Shifnal at around 4.39pm, with two appliances attending the scene alongside an operations officer.

The fire was found to be a small fire on a flat roof at the rear of the property, with crews using a hosereel jet to extinguish the fire, which was declared as out at around 5.24pm.

A spokesman for Shropshire Fire and Rescue said: "At 4.39pm, SFRS Fire Control received a call reporting a fire classified as a property fire in Shifnal.

"Two fire appliances were mobilised from Telford Central and an operations officer was in attendance at Wheatfield Drive.

"Crews used the following equipment to tackle the fire, which were a hosereel jet, a short extension ladder and thermal imaging camera. It was found to be a small fire on flat roof at rear of property. 

"Crews used one hosereel jet to extinguish the fire and a thermal imaging camera used to check for hot spots. The stop message was received at 5.24pm."

The other fire saw two fire engines from Oswestry called to a fire at Rhoswiel in the town, with operations and fire investigation officers also attending.

They arrived at 4.53pm and found a fire which had broken out in the kitchen area of the house and tackled the blaze with a hosereel jet and used proper pressure ventilation within the house.

The fire was declared as extinguished at around 5.38pm.

A spokesman for Shropshire Fire and Rescue said: "At 4.53pm, SFRS Fire Control received a call reporting a fire classified as a property fire in Oswestry.

"Two fire appliances were mobilised from Oswestry, while operations and fire Investigation officers were in attendance at Rhoswiel. Crews used the following equipment to tackle the fire, breathing Apparatus, hosereel jet and Positive Pressure Ventilation.

"It was found to be a fire in the kitchen area of property which has been extinguished by crews using a hosereel jet whilst wearing breathing apparatus. 

"Positive Pressure Ventilation was used within property and utilities have been isolated by crews, while thermal Imaging Camera used to check for any further signs of heath smoke or fire. The stop message was received at 5.38pm."
