Residents have experienced windy weather and cloudy skies this morning - but the Met Office have warned heavy rain is expected in the West Midlands tonight.

The Met office said: "Today: A mostly cloudy start, with patchy rain clearing eastwards through the morning. Then a mixture of scattered showers and drier intervals, before turning cloudier with further rain by late afternoon. Still breezy and rather mild at first. Maximum temperature 12C.

"Tonight: Remaining cloudy with outbreaks of heavy rain gradually clearing eastwards into the early hours. Turning drier with clearer spells developing behind, although a few blustery showers possible. Minimum temperature 1C.

"Thursday: A brighter start with plenty of sunny spells, although blustery showers continuing, mainly in the far west. Feeling much colder than Wednesday with brisk northerly winds. Maximum temperature 7C.

"Outlook for Friday to Sunday: Blustery showers continue to end the week, but more prolonged dry periods are possible. Often rather breezy and turning milder with further rain on Saturday and Sunday."

Motorists and commuters in other parts of the country have been warned of difficult travel conditions with two yellow warnings for wind in force.

The Met Office said gusts of up to 65mph could lead to road, rail, air and ferry delays, with those in affected areas advised to anticipate longer journeys and pay extra attention to road conditions.

Forecasters said gusts of 50-60mph are possible and potentially higher in more exposed places.
